I was at the office working on a Human Resources memo. Ms. Jeudy contacted me to finalize the action plan for the employee manual and we were both in her office when the office begins to shake. When the earthquake occurred, both Ms. Jeudy and I were dumbfounded and oblivious of the happenings. Ms. Jeudy got out of her desk to run but being paralyzed by fear, I pushed her and close the office door.

News from Haiti and the Job Ahead

Amidst the shocking devastation of the earthquake in Haiti, we have hopeful news to report. FINCA Haiti’s country director wrote us, today, that our 180 colleagues are all hard at work, right now, helping our nearly 12,000 microfinance clients rebuild and restock their businesses, so they can get their small businesses operational quickly, and continue working for a better tomorrow for their families.

"They are the real heroes. The day after the earthquake hit, everyone showed up to work — even at the headquarters office in Port-au-Prince. Since then, they have been working to procure supplies like water and fuel to help our clients and their families. We are very proud of our team, pulling together in a time of crisis. We know, for certain, that our presence here will be even more critical this year and in years to come."

UPDATE ON HAITI FROM PRESIDENT & CEO RUPERT SCOFIELD

The news out of Haiti continues to shock and overwhelm us. The devastation is beyond what we could have imagined, and the human suffering is almost too much to bear. News reports recounting the need for water, food, medical care and shelter for the nearly three million people severely impacted are staggering. Reports of death and destruction are sure to get worse, before they get better.
