2009 From Information to Innovation: Harnessing Social Data to Empower Change

FINCA International's fourth Annual Microfinance Research Symposium, From Information to Innovation: Harnessing Social Data to Empower Change, was a resounding success. The event, cosponsored by the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies International Development Program, was held at the SAIS campus in Washington, D.C. on April 17, 2009. Over 250 members of the academic community, microfinance practitioners and development professionals shared a day of inspired dialogue that aimed to further the academic and practical application of microfinance assessment information.

The day featured a thought provoking keynote address by Dr. Francis Fukuyama, Director of the SAIS International Development Program. The winners of the 2009 FINCA research monograph competition presented their findings on cutting edge topics, including client churn and remittances. The day was rounded out with a deeply informative address on MIX 2.0 by Peter Wall, Executive Director of Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) Market.

FINCA International is pleased to share the research presentations delivered at the Symposium (in alphabetical order):

Kadiri Liassou:
"Prevention through Prediction: A Quantitative Approach to Target Client Churn"

Benjamin Rae: "Those Who Leave and Those Who Remain: A Review of Client Exit in FINCA Mexico"

Yulya Spantchak: "Capitalizing on Remittances: FINCA Latin American and Remittance Product Design"

FINCA International is also pleased to share several videos of the day on our YouTube channel, highlighting the Keynote Address delivered by Dr. Francis Fukuyama.
