Executive Management Team

Rupert Scofield is FINCA International’s President and CEO. He is an agricultural economist with 30 years of experience in the developing countries of Africa, Latin America, Eurasia, and the Greater Middle East. Mr. Scofield co-founded FINCA in 1984 with John Hatch and has served as its President and CEO since 1994. Under his leadership, FINCA has grown from 60,000 clients and a loan portfolio of $5 million to a true global presence with over 700,000 clients across five continents and a loan portfolio of more than $300 million. Mr. Scofield has expanded FINCA's commitment to serve populations in the most need by advancing FINCA's presence in Africa and leading FINCA's entry into Eurasia and the Middle East. Mr. Scofield is a practitioner at heart and remains actively involved in the management of FINCA’s network of 21 wholly-owned subsidiaries, consistently guiding each program toward self-sufficiency.  As an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and a frequent keynote speaker, Mr. Scofield seeks to inspire the next generation of microfinance leaders. Prior to FINCA, Mr. Scofield served as the CEO of Rural Development Services, a consulting firm, and as country program director of the AFL-CIO’s Labor Program in El Salvador.  He earned two Master of Arts degrees in agricultural economics and public administration from the University of Wisconsin as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, and served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala. Mr. Scofield is fluent in English and Spanish.

Volker Renner, FINCA International's Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, brings more than 15 years experience in managing microfinance operations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He most recently held the position of Regional Director for FINCA Eurasia and Vice President. Prior to joining FINCA in 2004, Mr. Renner held positions as CEO of ProCredit Bank (Ukraine), member of the Audit Committee of ProCredit Bank (Georgia), Program Manager of EBRD/KfW's joint Ukraine Microlending Program, and Bank Advisor to banks in Russia's Siberia region. He holds an M.B.A. with a focus on banking from the Mannheim Professional Academy and is fluent in German, English and Russian.
Gwen Andreotti is FINCA's Vice President - Human & Business Resources, responsible for management, strategy, and technical assistance for all aspects of FINCA's worldwide network of affiliate programs in the areas of Human Resources, and she is Administrative Director for corporate headquarters. Ms. Andreotti serves on the corporate executive management team and sits on the boards/executive committees of FINCA Georgia, Haiti, Afghanistan, DR Congo and  Honduras. She joined FINCA from Air Canada, where she served initially in the Finance department and then moved into a regional role as Administration and Human Resources Manager for the logistics operation. With a management degree from McGill University in Montreal, she holds a dual Bachelors of Science degree in International Business and Human Resources Management. In 2005 Ms. Andreotti completed a dual Masters of Science Degree in Administration and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Most recently, she completed a certificate in Commercial Banking from the Stonier Graduate Program of the American Bankers Association in collaboration with Georgetown University. Ms. Andreotti is fluent in English and French, and conversant in Spanish. 
Donald Crane, Vice President & General Counsel, has thirty years experience in corporate, financial, and international law, and brings to FINCA expertise in counseling growing organizations. He has served as general counsel to major public corporations, and entered the development field by serving as Chief of Party for a U.S. AID capital market development program in Sofia, Bulgaria. He holds Bachelor’s and Law Degrees from the University of Georgia, and studied graduate tax law at Emory University.
Soledad Gompf, FINCA International's Vice President - New Business Development, spearheads the establishment of new country programs for FINCA as well as the development of new product offerings for FINCA clients, including lending, savings, microinsurance, and other financial services. Ms. Gompf has over 21 years of professional experience in administration, strategic planning, fundraising, grants management, budgeting and program design. Ms. Gompf has worked with a number of non-profit and for-profit organizations in Latin America and the U.S. A native of Peru, Ms. Gompf holds a law degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. She has had extensive professional training in the U.S. in the areas of fundraising and management. Ms. Gompf is bilingual, English/Spanish.
Braulio L Oliveira, Vice President & Chief Information Officer, brings more than 18 years experience in the financial services industry. He is responsible for leading the development and implementation of FINCA’s Information Services strategy. Mr. Oliveira also serves as Managing Director of Microfinance Solutions Inc, a microfinance software development firm headquartered in Guatemala. Prior to joining FINCA, Mr. Oliveira held technology leadership positions at PNC Financial Services Group, National City Bank, and Key Bank. Mr. Oliveira earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Universidade Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Masters degrees in Public Administration and Computer and Information Science from Cleveland State University. He also completed graduate work in gerontology at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Oliveira is fluent in English and Portuguese and speaks conversational Spanish and Japanese.
Jeff Flowers, Vice President & Regional Director for Eurasia, has 12 years of senior management experience with microfinance institutions in the region. He is responsible for the oversight and development of seven FINCA affiliates in Eurasia. Prior to his current position, Mr. Flowers served for eight years as the Country Director for FINCA Azerbaijan, building the institution from startup to become the leading non-bank microfinance institution in the Eurasia region. He holds a masters degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Andrews University, Newbold College, UK. He is also a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier School of Banking.
Anthony Singleton, Vice President & Regional Director for Africa, is a 25-year veteran of microfinance and commercial banking.  Having worked in 59 countries, Mr. Singleton oversees the network’s programs that currently serve more than 138,000 clients in Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Malawi. Before joining FINCA’s Management Team, Mr. Singleton was with Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI), and also specialized in small and microbusiness financial services in Tanzania.  He began his banking career with Chase Manhattan Bank, where over the course of 20 years he worked in a variety of positions in South Africa, London and the U.S.  He holds a Master of Public Administration in Economic Development from the University of Wisconsin Center for Development, and is fluent in French.
Yuriy Shulhan, Vice President and Regional Director for Latin America Yuriy Shulhan, Vice President & Regional Director for Latin America, has over 15 years of banking and business consulting experience in the transitional economies of Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Central Asia. He has served as a Chief Executive Officer, board member and advisor to a number of leading financial institutions, and as a business consultant for several IFC and USAID-funded economic development projects. Before being named to the position of Regional Director for Latin America, Mr. Shulhan served successively as Country Director for FINCA Kosovo and FINCA Kyrgyzstan, spearheading the growth of both affiliates to positions of leadership in their countries' microfinance communities. Mr. Shulhan holds a PhD in Economics from the National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine and speaks English, Russian, German and four other languages.
Sona Gandhi is Deputy to the President and CEO of FINCA International. In this capacity, Sona leads FINCA's strategy and planning activities, directs internal policy development, and focuses on initiatives of high priority to FINCA's strategic plan. Prior to joining FINCA in 2005, Sona worked in investment banking in New York and management consulting in Washington, DC. She began her microfinance career in Gujarat, India and Blantyre, Malawi. Sona is a frequent guest lecturer on microfinance, and a past Chair of the Washington, DC chapter of ‘Women Advancing Microfinance’. Sona holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS from the University of Maryland at College Park. Sona speaks fluent Gujarati (dialect of Hindi) and conversational French and Spanish.
Chikako Kuno, Capital Markets Manager, has 20 years of experience working in emerging markets in Eastern Europe, CIS and Latin America. Prior to joining FINCA, Chikako worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, serving as the Director of the Group for Small Business (GSB), a Financial Institutions Group responsible for EBRD’s microfinance investments and technical assistance support through financial intermediaries in 26 countries. Chikako has held numerous directorships, sat on various boards, and is the Chair of EBRD’s Gender Steering Group. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile and Honduras before she began her career as a commercial banker in New York. Chikako holds a Masters in International Economics from Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chikako is fluent in Spanish and speaks conversational Portuguese and Japanese.
